FOR INSPIRATION AND REFLECTION
There is something special about being in the gardens at The Pickery. It is often a magical experience. They are the perfect place to find some peace and respite from a busy life.
Whether you garden in a window box, a yard full of pots, a back garden or on several acres like us, gardens are both solace and sanctuary. Perhaps you don’t have a garden but love to visit other people’s.
Our in-garden gatherings and retreats allow people to pick flowers, learn how to grow, and wander our gardens to be inspired and creative.
The Pickery is part of a collection of gardens that cover 6 acres and was designed over the last 14 years. Rather than being artfully designed to a specific plan, each garden evolved as we learned to garden here
Each garden is beautiful and uplifting in its own way. In our gardens you will find plants in pots, an orchard meadow, a rose garden, perennial beds, shrubbery, and a potager. We also have seedlings and plants in our small greenhouse and nursery.
The gardens are set alongside native bush and the Pakuratahi Forest, designated as a significant natural area under Upper Hutt’s policy for protecting the region’s natural heritage.
We only open the gardens to host our garden-inspired gatherings.
WORKSHOPS & EVENTS
GUIDED PICKS
A hands-on experience for you to pick your own flowers from our cutting gardens and make your own hand-tied bouquet. We’ll show you what’s at its best and tell you about the flowers we grow.
GARDEN GATHERINGS
We host small gatherings of flower lovers to wander the garden, chat about flowers, and pick flowers to make your own bouquets. We exchange stories, seeds, and plants with garden-minded people.
GARDEN WISDOM WALKSHOPS
In our garden, we lead wanderings inspired by the Street Wisdom Movement so you can ponder on important questions in life. In the garden you’ll find inspiration all around and quiet places to stop, reflect, and find your own wisdom by being in nature.
GARDEN LEARNING
If you’d like to create your own pickery join us for one of our grow-along events to learn how to grow your own gardens. Whether you want flowers to cut or vegetables and herbs to eat, we will help you get started. We’ll get you set up with seeds and seedlings so you can get started.
GARDEN INSPIRATION
We host creative retreats specifically for creatives and entrepreneurs who draw inspiration from nature. It is the perfect opportunity for restless creatives to hone their craft, refine their vision, and activate their businesses inspired by our glorious garden setting.
